The village of Sowerby
The village of Sowerby links with Thirsk, but retains its own identity and is set in the heart of 'Herriot Country', the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales National Park to the west and the North Yorkshire Moors National Park to the east. Thirsk is also the Darrowby of the late 'James Herriot' (Alf Wight), famous vet and author.
On Front Street, which is the main road through the village, an avenue lined with trees, is an old timbered house and the historical village church, and over Cod Beck at the southern end is an old packhorse bridge.
Local facilities include a reputable public house and a nursing home. There are several schools in Sowerby -Thirsk School on Topcliffe Road, and also a primary school. The village is within easy access of the A1, A19/A168 for commuting both north to Teesside and south to York.
On entering the home you are welcomed into the large reception hall that allows access to the ground floor reception rooms and also a staircase to the first-floor accommodation. You will also note the high ceilings through the majority of the home which is a characteristic of this era.
The generously sized lounge, to the front elevation, offers a large bay window and there is also a fire surround as a decorative focal point with a gas stove in place.
The dining room, which is open plan with the living room and can be closed off with the glazed sliding doors, this room is accessed from the reception hall and again is a very good size and will easily accommodate a dining table and chairs, there is also a large window to the rear elevation and a door to the kitchen.
Accessed from the dining area, is the kitchen. The kitchen is well fitted with a large selection of base and wall units, a gas hob and electric oven, integrated under counter fridge and freezer and also excellent work surface area. Completing the kitchen is a useful understairs storage cupboard. There are two further doors, one to a useful rear porch which in turn provides access to the rear yard, and the other to the house bathroom.
The house bathroom is generously sized and is fitted with a white suite comprising a bath, toilet, hand wash basin and a separate shower cubicle. There is also plumbing for a washing machine and access to a storage cupboard where the property's boiler is located.
To the first floor, the landing area leads to three bedrooms and also a cloakroom. The master bedroom, to the front elevation of the home, is a superior size and has a built-in wardrobe. Bedroom two, again a double room with built-in storage, whilst bedroom three, located to the rear of the property is a single room. Completing the first floor is the cloakroom which is fitted with a toilet and hand washbasin.
Externally, to the rear of the property is a small courtyard with a pedestrian gate to the rear.
